5 Lesbians Eating A Quiche – Is Back On!
After a false-start, Ulverstone Repertory Theatre Society’s production of 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche will be performed at the Leven Theatre, Ulverstone, between Friday 14 and Saturday 22 August.
The show was previously bumped in, and ready to go live on March 20 when covid-19 lockdown restrictions hit in mid-March.
The show’s director Geoff Dobson said, “we were ready, we had the set finished and the lighting done. We were a week out from opening when it all stopped’.
“The cast and crew were obviously extremely disappointed after all their hard work. We are coming to the end of a 10-week rehearsal process and were all very excited. Some cast members even had family members flying in for the show from afar”.
“We are thankful to the Central Coast Council who have worked with us to be able to remount as quickly as possible, now that restrictions are easing”.
“5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche could be one of the first production back up and running in the State”.
5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche is an award-winning production, written by Evan Linder and Andrew Hobgood. The play is set in 1956, during the annual quiche breakfast for the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein. As the assembled ladies await the announcement of the Society’s annual prize-winning quiche, an atomic bomb warning siren is heard. The ladies question whether the Communist threat has finally come to pass, and how they will respond as their idyllic town and lifestyle faces attacks?
Dobson said, “it is quite ironic, considering what we are going through right now, as the ladies face lockdown in the Oaktree Falls Community Centre”.
The five-hander features well known, experienced actors, Michelle Best, Maree Brodzinski, Laura Watkins, Cindy Wescombe and Melissa Wilson.
The new performance dates are Friday 14 and Saturday 15 August at 8pm. Sunday 16 August at 2pm. Then again, the following week, Friday 21 and Saturday 22 August at 8pm. Additional performances will be scheduled if sold out.
Covid-safe requirements and social distancing measures will be in-place. Tickets available from the Ulverstone Visitor Centre, open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm. It is recommended to call ahead.
Anyone still in possession of tickets can either receive a full refund or exchange for new dates.
Previously issued tickets are not valid due to social distancing measures.
